Hours: 35 hrs/wk.
Range: $53,602-$77,711
Location: 30 College Street, Toronto

Summary:
Native Child and Family Services of Toronto strives to provide a life of quality, well-being, caring and healing for our children and families in the Toronto Native Community. We do this by creating a service model that is culture-based and respects the values of Native people, the extended family, and the right to self-determination and through the integration of holistic, culturally based prevention services that are child centred, family focused, and community driven.
Original talking circles draw on traditional ways of decision making, problem solving, resolving issues and healing. OTC have been used for generations. Founded on positive relationship building and connection the OTC Talking Circle is a collaborative assessment and problem solving process. It is reflective of the agency’s vision based on self –determination, family healing empowerment and well-being.
Primary Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Supervisor, Intake, the OTC (Original Talking Circle) Facilitator will:
Help solidify the OTC Process within the agency and between departments.
Field the referrals.
Be responsible to contact families and conduct intake screenings.
Educate and prepare the family on the OTC process.
Help to identify participants and prioritize issues.
Co- facilitate Circle with Elder to create a safe space for everyone’s voice to be heard, and acknowledged.
Develop an agreed upon plan for moving forward.
Comply with provincial and occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.
Be available for consultation pre-post circles with all internal staff open with the family.
Other duties as it pertains to this role.
Qualifications:
Strong understanding and practice of Indigenous approaches to healing, including land-based practices and cultural knowledge.
Connection to FNIM communities.
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling OR a combination of education and experience working with Aboriginal people.
Experience in social services.
Extremely knowledgeable about Indigenous culture.
Strong facilitation skills in conducting traditional talking and sharing circles.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; organizational skills; initiative and respect for confidentiality.
Demonstrated understanding of the workplace health and safety practices and understanding of an employee’s responsibility under current legislation.
Understanding of the unique dynamics that exist within the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis cultures.
