Zara’s Pasta Nest Ltd. o/a Zara’s Deli is excited to expand our team with a Specialty Food Buyer. With 30 years of family-owned and operated experience, Zara’s Deli offers a colourful range of fresh pastas, sauces, olives, assorted antipasti, and other authentic Italian food offerings.
Position Available: Specialty Food Buyer
Type of Position: Permanent, Full-time (30 hrs/week), Shifts, Weekends
Salary: $35.00 per hour
Job Location and Business Address: #128 – 1689 Johnston Street (Granville Island Public Market), Vancouver, BC V6H 3R9
Qualifications:
• Strong operational and research skills
• Proven experience in organization, supervisory, food management (1+ years)
• Prior experience in an establishment offering Italian & Mediterranean food products is an asset.
• Excellent English language skills
• Completion of secondary school

Job Description

Responsibilities Include:
• Study and research alternative food manufacturers, 3rd party handlers and distributors for our product portfolio at Granville Island (retail) division.
• Purchase and finalize food product procurement cycle from initial price queries to final billing & accounts payable.
• Contact suppliers and vendors, negotiate unit prices, investigate and implement seasonal discount offerings aligned with weekly and monthly resale figures, holiday season, summer rush.
• Maintain adequate stock/inventory levels, communicate with sales supervisors & management for expected unit turnover(s).
• Ensure purchased goods are within the requirements of Zara’s Deli for both hygiene standards and shelf life (best before dates & anticipated sales turnover rate).
