Co-operatives First is a Saskatoon-based non-profit that raises awareness of the co-operative model and supports groups in Western Canada to develop co-ops that solve local problems and create opportunities in Indigenous and rural communities. Funded by Federated Co-operatives Limited, we help groups learn how to work together to make great business ideas a reality. We are working in partnership with CFDC of CIFN in Kamloops to establish roots in BC.
Located in Kamloops BC, Community Futures Development Corporation of Central Interior First Nations (CFDC of CIFN) promotes and provides community economic development support services to Indigenous people within the Central Interior of British Columbia.
Overview:
As the Community Outreach Coordinator, you will promote co-operative education and the offerings of Co-operatives First to enhance awareness and encourage the development of co-ops in British Columbia. You will also understand the work, goals, and products of CFDC of CIFN and be able to promote the work of CFDC of CIFN. Your focus will be on building relationships with individuals and organizations involved in economic development in rural and Indigenous communities.
You will connect with community members, organize promotional events, and share the impactful stories of co-operatives. You should be passionate about economic development and co-operatives, with strong communication skills. Your primary goal will be to increase awareness of the co-op model as a tool for economic growth.
You’ll collaborate with inspiring groups to educate them about the co-op model and help bring their ideas to life using our proven resources. Additionally, you will generate leads by engaging with new individuals in innovative ways. Your success will expand Co-operatives First’s reach, enabling countless communities in BC to develop thriving and sustainable businesses and services.

Requirements
To be considered for this role, here are the skills we’re looking for:
• At least two years in a similar role with comparable goals and responsibility (business development/community engagement/relationship management)
• You must be an excellent communicator, both written and spoken.
• You must like to meet new people.
• Co-operatives First and CFDC of CIFN are composed of highly collaborative thinkers and doers, and you must be team player.
• You should be self-sufficient, self-motivated, and happy to be in an office environment with organizational team supports.
• It is also a creative role, so you must be able to gracefully receive constructive criticism and feedback about your work.
• You must be able to travel, up to 35 days a year.
Responsibilities:
As Co-operatives First Community Outreach Coordinator, you’ll build lasting relationships and help people get co-ops off the ground, experimenting, learning, and adjusting as you go. To grow our impact in BC you’ll be responsible for:
• Delivering products efficiently
• Managing relationships with empathy and pragmatism
• Crafting messaging that resonates with our audience in BC and ignites interest and better understanding in the co-op model
• Designing interesting campaigns and outreach strategies to engage our audience
• Monitoring and tracking success with our customer relationship management platform (Hubspot)
